This is a Tunisian crochet pattern using a Tunisian Crochet HOok or Afghan Hook that’s approximately 10cm in length. You cannot use a standard crochet hook as the work is too wide and will not fit all of your stitches, but you don’t need a hook with a cord at the end.

Whatever yarn you use should be appropriate for a 5mm hook, and I recommend using the 6.5mm hook because Tunisian crochet in general (at this stitch in particular) is very tight, and having a slightly larger hook is helpful for keeping your work loose and even.

The pattern includes the necessary information for adjusting the width of your cowl so that if you use a much thinner or thicker yarn, you can easily adjust the pattern to suit your needs.
