Drawstring Accessory Pouch and Stuff Sack
When purchased with the “More than a Market Bag,” this pattern will be discounted to $1.50.
This drawstring accessory pouch was designed as an add-on to the “More than a Market Bag” pattern, but it is also “more than” an accessory pouch. On its own, it would make a great small storage bag or drawstring clutch. Once sewn into the market bag, the accessory pouch is great for containing wallet, keys, sunglasses, cell phones, or anything else you don’t want slipping through the mesh of your market bag. And, when you want to store it, the market bag rolls up and stuffs into the accessory pouch to save space. This bag/purse insert could also be sewn into other market bags or crocheted bags, provided they have at least a 3/4” wide solid band around the top- it would be challenging to attach to mesh.
This pattern should suit a wide range of gauges, even though the listed gauge is intended to be the same as the matching market bag. Using the same hook and yarn as for the market bag should produce a “stuff sack” big enough to contain it.
Due to the nature of patterns, no returns can be made; however I am happy to provide pattern support on ravelry or facebook, so please ask if you’re stuck!
Difficulty: 2/5
Recommended yarn options:
-Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton or similar: approx 120 – 145 yds (110 – 133 m)
-Caron One Pound (acrylic) or similar: approx 100 - 120 yds (91 - 110 m)
Recommended hook size:
Cotton: F (3.75mm)
Acrylic: H (5.00mm)
Adjust as needed to meet gauge and/or limit stretching. (see gauge notes)
Gauge: (same as for “More than a Market Bag,” but can be done in a variety of gauges.)
Cotton: 4 sc = 1” (2.5 cm), 6 rows = 1¼” (3.2 cm)
Acrylic: 3 sc = 1” (2.5 cm) when stretched side to side, 2 rows = 1” (2.5 cm) when stretched up and down
(Small variations are acceptable, but will change the finished size of the bag proportionally.) I recommend making a swatch in sc at least 3” square to test gauge. For acrylic, stretch swatch as far as possible in each direction to find the “stretched gauge.”
Stitch Guide (US Terminology):
ch – chain
ch sp – chain space
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
stdc – standing dc (optional, photo tutorial provided)
