Drawstring Neck Gaiter
This is a warm, attractive unisex cowl that is appealing to both men and women! It features a drawstring so it can be adjusted at the neck for comfort and warmth!
It is a quick and easy knit, taking less than a skein of yarn (and a little more of a different color if you want the contrasting/matching ribbing).
It is knit flat, with a mock rib hem at both ends. There are eyelets in the hem for using an I-Cord drawstring. Instructions for knitting all of this are included in the pattern.
There are other options explored in the pattern that allow you to customize it for your own preferences. You can choose to increase (as written in the pattern) to make the cowl wider at the bottom than at the top (this helps it to cover more of the lower neck.). You can choose to knit the entire cowl in mock rib, or you can switch to stockinette (as written In the pattern). Finally, instructions for resizing the pattern are included in case you prefer to make a different size.
This pattern was written using a Brother KH-260 bulky, and with Aran weight yarn (Hobby Lobby I Love this Yarn). Instructions are included to guide you if you would like to try this with a different machine (such as an LK-150). It’s s simple rectangle design, so calculating a different gauge for your machine should be fairly simple.
Skills required:
• Mock Rib (this is explained in the pattern)
• Open Stitch cast on over waste yarn and ravel cord
• Increasing using 3-Prong tool
• Making eyelets using 1-Prong tool
• Hanging lifelines
• Picking up and hanging stitches from waste yarn or lifeline for hung hems
• Picking up purl bumps from adjacent needles to fill empty needles
• Mattress stitch
• Carriage settings for partial knitting (for I-Cord)
Because of the drawstring, this pattern is not recommended for children as it can cause a choking and strangling hazard. It could be made without the drawstring, however.
