Gauge
10 x 10 cm / 4 by 4 inches in stranded pattern
Small: 32 sts /40 rows
Medium: 29 sts / 35 rows
Choose needles that give you the right gauge. I used 2.5 mm (US 1 ½) for size small and 3 mm (US 2 ½ ) for size medium
Finished measurements:
Small (medium)
Cuff length: 4.75 cm (1.9 inches) (5.5 cm(2.2 inches))
Total length: 20 cm (8 inches) (24 cm( 9.5 inches))
Mitten circumference: 19 cm (7.5 inches) (20.5 cm (8 inches))
Materials
You can use fingering yarn left overs in suitable colours. For the mitten I used Rauma Finullgarn (175 m(191 yds)/50 g) in the following colours:
Main colours
Brown 491
Green 458
Beige 406
Blue 483
Contrasting colours
Yellow 450
Red 424
Purple 474
White 401
Skills needed:
Knitting and purling
Increasing and decreasing
Working stranded colourwork following charts
Latvian braids (explained in pattern)
And all this is worked in a small circumference, which makes the pattern suitable for experienced knitters, or for adventurous intermediate knitters.
Pattern notes
The mittens feature a latvian braid on the cuff edge, and a sore thumb, with a gusset.
The flower harts can be mixed and matched as you wish. There are four flower charts, sunflower, poppies, lavender and almond flower. Use charts and colours according to your taste and stash. Both mitten and thumb length can be easily adjusted.
The original mitten is worked with one flower chart before thumb gusset. If you want a longer cuff for the mittens, you can easily add another flower row to the cuff.
