Dreaming of Trees Mittens
Inspired by the beautiful textiles of Kyrgyzstan and by
Scandinavian colorwork traditions, these mittens
delight with their exquisite design and cashmere
warmth.
Worked from cuff to tip, the mittens begin with a garter
stitch border and then change to stranded colorwork,
with the thumb coming out from the side. After knitting
the cuff, you will begin shaping the thumb gusset. Once
the gusset is complete, you put the thumb stitches on
hold and work the rest of the hand, finishing with a
grafted close. The final step is to put the thumb stitches
back on the needles and complete the thumb. Both
mittens are identical. The pattern is charted only, with
separate charts for the small and large sizes.
Three skeins of yarn yield 2 pairs of mittens by
swapping colors in the pattern. Switch the MC and CC1
for the 2nd pair.
