Drills
Drills has been retired, as of January 1st, 2022
It is a bias knit scarf featuring knit/purl patterns more commonly associated with Ganseys.
Knits and purls are to knitting what trebles and treble-hop-backs are to Irish hardshoe or 3s and 7s are to Irish dance in general. And like any skill, practice, or drills, makes perfect!
kills/Techniques Used:
- knit, purl (K, P)
- yarnovers: between two K sts, between two P sts, and between a K and a P or a P and a K (yo)
- decreases: knit 2 together (K2tog), knit 2 together through their back loops (K2tog tbl), & purl 2 together (P2tog)
- twisted sts: knit through back loop (K tbl), & purl through back loop (P tbl)
You have your choice of knitting this scarf from the written instructions or from the charts or even using both. Each step will have two files: one for the written out instructions and one for the chart.
Additional materials: a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, and a locking st marker (or coilless safety pin) to mark the right side of your knitting.
I recommend using a solid or subtly tonal yarn for this mkal, so the patterns stand out.
Gauge isn’t vital with this pattern but a looser gauge will require more yardage than the amount listed.
Steps will be released on the following schedule:
Warm Ups - Aug 21, 2018
Step 1 - Sept 8, 2018
Step 2 - Sept 15, 2018
Step 3 - Sept 22, 2018
Step 4 - Sept 29, 2018
Step 5 - Oct 6, 2018
Update: I’m making it a priority to go back through my patterns and add low vision pdfs to them. I’m using the guidelines set out by the Accessible Patterns group. A new Low Vision pdf has been added to this pattern’s file. This new pdf includes: all black text,
sans serif 22pt font, photo(s) captioned, pattern is left justified, and use of bold type in place of italics. All directions are fully written out line by line. This pattern can be made completely without use of any charts included.
