Drop it like it's Hot
Have you ever looked at a skein of handspun and thought, “This is really gorgeous, but what will I make with it?” Never again - this scarf is the answer! This is a pattern designed specifically for single skeins of fabulous handspun yarns. It would probably work equally well with commercial yarns that include a lot of texture or add-ins.
You don’t need a super even texture or a lot of yardage to make this scarf; in fact, just the opposite. Knit the scarf using handspun yarn in weights ranging from worsted to super bulky. Two to four ounces of yarn should get you a wearable scarf, regardless of yardage. I knit the blue/white scarf using 70 yards of bulky to super bulky thread ply yarn, but I also knit samples using about 25 yards of bulky to super bulky 2ply yarn.
This pattern works up quickly; while I was designing it I made five of them in five evenings for my kids’ teachers - talk about a quick gift! You don’t need to formally block this scarf, but a light steaming or a damp blocking will help flatten out any curling and even out the row height.
