Mystery Knitalong 2020

Yarn: HEA Haapsalu Shawl / Haapsalu salli lõng 30/2

This year Mystery Knitalong 2020 lasts 15 weeks which means we will have our gorgeous triangular lace shawls done by Christmas. We will be knitting this shawl using 3 different Estonian lace pattern motifs (one of them is edging) that include about 1114 nupps :)
(do not panic - we can knit anything 2 rows per day).
Row length is gradually decreasing getting easier and easier with every row so this is how the KAL is set up:

Week 1 to 10 -> 2 rows per day (as previous years);
Week 11 to 14 -> 4 rows per day;
Week 15 -> 8 rows per day (as these are shorter rows);

New rows are meant to knit on weekdays and weekends are for catching up if needed (because life happens as we know).

The most convenient way to receive pattern instructions is with “Knitlet” (knitting newsletter) and the updates are sent every Friday for the upcoming week.

This year I will not publish daily updates on Facebook - only the reminders that updates are available.

You will need:

3,5 mm needles for cast on and bind off

2,5 mm needles for the main knitting

PS! If you want a larger shawl or you’ll use thicker yarn replace the needles with size larger ones or follow suggestions on the yarn label.

PPS! You can use circulars as well as we will be having a lot of stitches in the beginning.

approx. 100 g (1500 m per 100 g) cobweb yarn (30/2)

PS! If you substitute it with another yarn make sure you’ll have enough of it or you can get more if needed.

PPS! Great substitute yarns are lace weight yarn.

PPPS! I’ll recommend lighter tones as it will show off the pattern details the best.

11 stitch markers for cast-on

PS! It will be convenient if 3 of them are in a different color.

1114 beads if you decide to avoid nupp stitch

PS! I counted those nupps 3 times getting a different number every time, so get a bit more beads just in case.

The size of the shawl after blocking should be:
170 cm wingspan and 85 cm deep after blocking
