Duggari Sweater Junior
This sweater is a classical raglan model that resembles sailors’ sweaters of the past, hence the name Duggari:
Dugga was a certain type of fishing boat used by Englishmen fishing around Iceland in the 16th century, the fishermen were called “Duggari”.
The sweater features a simple structural pattern in the yoke, and a high collar. It is worked from the neck down. You will be working back and forth in pattern while the front neck is shaped, then stitches are joined to work the rest of the sweater in the round. Finally stitches at the neck are picked up to work the collar.
Sizes: 2 – 4 – 6 – 8 – 10 – 12 years / Sweater circumference 65 – 71 – 77 – 83 – 88 – 92 cm (25 1/2 – 28 – 30 1/4 – 32 3/4 – 34 3/4 – 36 1/4 in.) Garment and sleeve length can easily be adjusted.
Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows in stockinette = 10×10 cm (4 in)
Needles: Circular needle 4 and 5 mm (US 6 and 8) or as required to meet gauge; 40 cm and longer, according to sweater size. Double pointed needles 4 and 5 mm for cuffs and sleeves. If you use the magic loop technique, you will need one long circular needle in each size.
Yarn: Most Worsted weight yarn will be suitable. The light gray sweater in the photo is worked in Cascade 220, the black one is worked in CaMaRose Lama Tweed. You will need approximately: 200 – 250 – 300 – 300 – 350 – 400 – 400 g.
Difficulty level: The pattern is suitable for most knitters with some experience. The following techniques are used: Casting on and binding off, adding new stitches in the beginning and end of a row, knitting and purling, picking up stitches to knit, increasing (M1R and M1L) and decreasing (k2tog and ssk).
