“Dugong” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dugongis) is the small summer sister of my “Manati” (manatee) design, with even shorter mini-sleeves, more like an oversized vest.

Both designs from the sea cow family have in common that they are rather simple (like the animals), knitted sideways to better control the yarn usage, and both include large parts in Stockinette. The Dugong, however, features a border all around which will be added as the last step. The pattern of the border determines the style of the vest, the “final touch”: Either keep it classic & pure (i.e. Garter) or go for the lacy version – it’s up to you to decide, and the best bit is: you only need to decide at the very end …

My gauge was 28 sts x 42 rows with needle 3,0mm. Because most people are looser knitters than me, instructions are also provided for gauges 24 x 32 and 26 x 39.

The vest is designed to be worn with lots of ease (e.g. vest back width of 76cm on a bust circumference of 100cm for size L). If you prefer less/ more width, simply end earlier or continue, but you will need a different amount of yarn.
