Made with 100 per-cent pure wool from the Sheep and Wool Centre in Leenane, Co. Galway. I designed this hat with the colours of the changing season in mind. It’s made with a cable braid for the band, after the ends are joined, stitches are then picked up and knit in the round for the main part of the hat. An owl fabric button finishes the look.

I decided to revisit this cabled brimmed hat and create alternative sizes. The pattern now has four different sizes, child, adult small, adult medium and adult large. The original hat was designed for ”adult small”, though was quickly stolen by the bookworm princess aged 7 and worn as a more floppy, slouchy beanie than originally intended. The largest size is pictured here, and yes, I have stolen the look from my daughter, more slouchy, and loose.

My second sample was made in Studio Donegal.

Another recommended yarn is Art by Eve “Betsy” as seen in the beautiful sample made for Living Dreams Art and Fibre by Calloo.
