This cowl or neckwarmer pattern was inspired by men painted by the artists of the Pre-Raphaelite era. The women were so beautiful and complexly dressed, and the men that were meant to impress them were dressed almost all alike. They were dressed simply, in natural colors, with high-necked suits or armor. I found two works of art to be particularly inspiring. The first was the painting, La Belle Dame sans Merci, by John William Waterhouse and the other was a modern movie depicting the Duke of Devonshire, The Dutchess. Both show men simply dressed, in natural colors and leather. I hope that modern men can find ways to incorporate this classic style into wardrobe.
