Dunmore Chunky Herringbone stitch hand knit cowl with decorative Fair Isle button band PDF pattern

Inspired by traditional woven and knit fabrics found in the northern and western Scottish Islands.

The main section of the cowl is worked in rows, using 2 ends of a soft DK merino held together throughout, the herringbone stitch gives a flexible fabric, and works well with the yarn for a structured drape.

The decorative button band is worked separately then stitched into position on the cowl. The band is worked in rows using 2 colour Fair Isle technique, with additional contrast colours embroidered onto the centre of each motif using duplicate stitch. The side opening allows you to wear the cowl in a variety of ways depending on your style.
