Dutch Mountain Cowl
As a kid I used to travel with my family to the mountains in Germany and Austria, these are now my favourite childhood memories! Walking in forests and seeing the mountain ridges peeking through the trees.
the best moments were the early morning walks with my mother and the dogs during winter holidays. The snow would be all around and the air so still. I often think back of those moments and decided to honor them with a cowl design.
Size
The pattern comes in two sizes; a loose hanging cowl, or a more fitted cowl. The only change is the yarn and needles used.
What you need
for the loose version: 328 yards (300) meters DK yarn and needles 5 US (3.75 mm)
for the snug but comfortable fit: 382 yards (350 meters) sport weight yarn and needles 2.5 US (3 mm)
Yarn
I would recommend a good woolen blend with something soft and squishy, I myself used MCN DK which I dyed up myself, but you could use a variety of other yarns too.
If you want to be luxurious:
- Ovis Et Cetera - Dimidium (DK)
- La Bien Aimee - Merino DK
- Malabrigo - Arroyo (DK)
Or for more budget friendly yarns think of
- Filcolana - Pernila (Sport)
- Fonty - Nimbus (Sport /DK)
- Garnstudio DROPS Baby Merino (sport)
