These simple mitts were inspired by Ori in the 2012 movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

If you’ve never worked cables without a cable needle before then now might be the time to try looking up a few video tutorials. Doing this will make twisting stitches (every other stitch on every round!) much more tolerable. I always work my cables without a cable needle (as long as they’re less than 8 stitches). It can be a scary step to take at first, but it’s well worth it. Attempting these mitts using a cable needle just might make you cry. I know I would.

The 6 stitch per inch gauge on worsted weight yarn looks like it will be very tight and hard to work, but it shouldn’t be. The stitch pattern is a type of ribbing, so the material pulls in from the purls. 24 stitches over 4 inches is what your fabric should measure in it’s relaxed state.
