Dziadzi—roughly pronounced JA-jee—is Polish for grandpa. While the extent of my Polish is about five random, mostly useless words (including “knife”), I grew up calling my grandfather dziadzi, and now my kids call my dad dziadzi. Originally published as a men’s pullover in my family-focused collection Juntos: Knits for Togetherness, Dziadzi has been updated for everyone.
This version of the pattern includes 10 sizes, as well as instructions for knitting the sweater for men (longer lengths and looser fitting sleeves) and women (shorter lengths and closer fitting sleeves). For both fits, the design remains the same: a bottom-up drop-shoulder construction decorated with simple mistake rib and slipped-stitch cables, finished off with a button placket. It has a comfy, relaxed fit and knits up surprisingly quickly in worsted weight yarn.
