This is a snug-fitting hat with ear flaps. The flaps are knit using a simple slip-stitch pattern that creates a double-thick fabric.

The head used for modeling the hats is about 25” around (63.5 cm). For a smaller hat you might use smaller needles or lighter weight yarn. The Plymouth Encore used for the samples is a fairly heavy worsted yarn rated at 5 sts per inch.

The pattern was written to be worked flat and sewn up. It could easily be altered to be worked in the round.

The hat requires about 150 yds (137 m) of worsted weight yarn.
