Protoplanetary disks are disks of dust and gas orbiting a new star. The disk is the stage before planets and asteroids, where dust and gas hasn’t clumped together to form anything yet. Our solar system would have begun with a large protoplanetary disk, in which Earth and the other planets would have formed from.

This pattern is for an early stage protoplanetary disk, made by first crocheting a star (sphere), then creating a spiral pattern holding 6 strands simultaneously! This can be quite a challenge!

The disk should be small enough to hold in your palm, but there is no need for a gauge swatch or to stick to the yarn I used. Feel free to use any yarn weight and appropriate hook size.

I used 4 colors for this project: black, claret, spice, and dandelion.
