Swirls of lacey stitches dance inside stripes of color in this elegant rectangular stole.

This stole is worked from one end to the other, alternating between garter stitch stripes, lace, and plain stockinette. The ripple lace has patterning on both sides. Optional lines of surface crochet, added after the knitting is completed, create contrasting vertical stripes along the edges to enclose the lace and stockinette sections.

The pattern contains a picture tutorial on how to add the surface crochet lines, if desired.

Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but using a different weight yarn or needle size will affect the size of the finished stole and the amount of yarn needed.

Yarn:
400 yds / 366 m of fingering weight in each of two contrasting colors

Needles:
US size 4 / 3.5 mm straight or circular needles

Gauge:
25.5 sts x 36 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette
Exact gauge is not critical but will affect the size of the finished shawl and the amount of yarn needed.

Notions:
Size C crochet hook for optional surface crochet; yarn needle
