Reflection and release are important aspects of the meditative process. One must look inside to identify problems before transcending them. This cycle of reflection and release can be seen in lunar phases: the filling and emptying of the moon, illuminated by the sun or reflected light from the earth itself - referred to as earthshine.

This easy-to-memorize pattern can be approached as a meditative exercise. Once you are familiar with the pattern, your mind is free to reflect, while your hands work the caliper cables and twisted stitches. Near the end of your knitting journey, you will be asked to let go of and release specific stitches. This may seem unproductive and or even uncomfortable at first, but try to allow yourself to be part of the process without judgment. Begin slowly, watching each stitch unravel to the very beginning, opening spaces, and revealing a new design.

Skills Needed: Knitting in the round, k2tog, ktbl, slipping stitches, cables without cable needle (instructions provided), elongated st (instructions provided).

• You’ll have a choice of working from either written instructions or the chart. The chart is independent of the written portion and you do not need to use it to work this pattern.
• Tips are included to make a long tail cast on that matches the gauge of the rest of the cowl and is stretchy.
• Instructions are included for the standard bind off that make it stretchy.
• Specific instructions making a swatch are also included. This is a great time to try the CO tips and the recommended bind off!
• Tested, written instructions for working the simple cables without an extra needle.
• Instructions for blocking your garment.
• This pattern was tech edited for accuracy and test knit to be sure you would get the same results.

Materials & info
Yarn Used: Knits4Comfort Merino DK, (DK 100% Merino Superwash, 231 yds/211 m per skein); sample uses 1 skein of color Algae Bloom

Yardage: 160 - 196 yds; 46 - 179 m.

Needles: US #5 (3.75 mm); 24” (60 cm) circular needle is recommended or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 27 sts x 27.5 rnds = 4”/10 cm unblocked and worked in the round (instructions provided for swatch and a tutorial link). A different gauge will affect drape, yardage required, and size. Stitch gauge is more important for this project.

Notions Required: Tapestry needle, unique BOR stitch marker, 4 stitch markers for horizontal repeats.
