Thrummed mittens were born off the East Coast of Canada, in Newfoundland. I live on the East Coast of Vancouver Island, off the West Coast of Canada - hence East Coast Mittens.

Thrumming is a technique that adds an extra layer of warmth to your mittens by knitting Roving (Merino Sliver), into your stitches in a pattern. The roving shows as hearts on the outside of your mitten. These mittens are knit with a very firm gauge. Mittens are knitted on dpn’s.

The technique for knitting in roving is explained and step by step photo’s of the technique are included in the pattern.
