part of the “Earth Wool & Fire” trio of patterns and named after the East Creek Kiln and Ceramic Arts Site where I spent most of my childhood, I give you East Creek. To me, East Creek means home and that’s what you get with this garter stitch pullover. East Creek is your go to cozy sweater. Knit up in garter stitch using worsted weight Soft Donegal Irish yarn, it’s flattering, comfortable, and will wear like a dream. The boat neck, raglan shoulders, and optional pockets make this the ideal comfortable, practical and easy to wear sweater. East Creek features a rather unique construction method too. Check it out:

It’s knit in the round from the top down until the divide for sleeves.

The front, back and each of the sleeves are worked flat.

When you are finished you have one big flat sweater, all you have to do is fold it in half and to two long easy seams form the sleeve cuff up the arm and down the body of the sweater, one on each side.

For East Creek, I include instructions to single crochet your seam along the exterior of your sweater for a little added texture and personality.

I have also included optional instructions for pockets! (cause who doesn’t love pockets) knit up in a contrasting color.

NOTE: this method of construction draws from older more traditional methods of making top down sweaters, prior to the popularity of top-down sweaters in the round. East Creek is knit flat so that the garter stitch can be worked in the most easy/efficient way possible however, the added side seems also give the sweater some additional structure and a more flattering fit.

It also makes it VERY EASY to add extra room to the body or to adjust side shaping.

NOTE: the pattern is written with aprox 1.5” of positive ease throughout, so for example, the 32” actually measures out to 33.5” in the chest.

Yarn:
1000, 1050, 1100, 1150, 1200, 1250, 1350, 1475 yards of heavy worsted/aran weight yarn. Sample shown in “Soft Donegal” by Studio Donegal in “Off White”
OPTIONAL: 200 yards of yarn in a contrasting color for pockets

Needles:
US size 4, 16” circular needle (for neck)
US size 7, 32” circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge:
18 sts x 20 rows = 4”
4.5 sts x 5 rows per 1”
