Easter Hoppy Egg
Getting ready for that Thursday in April when we paint eggs!
This little applique pattern is a twist on a classic.
It requires a total of about 5.5 m (6 yd) of material (fingering in beige, white, and colour of choice) and basic techniques: foundation chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet, in addition to increases and decreases. A note on increases & decreases: I chose a “hybrid” increase/decrease of dc combined with hdc so that the piece stays flat.
Gauge is not important.
Engage your creativity: use various colours alternating in stripes or use variegated yarn for self-striping; make a symmetrical piece (Bunny facing East instead of West) combine the two and make a hanging ornament; make a brooch; sew it on a garland or on a baby blanket. The possibilities are endless!
A tip on the hanging ornament: make one Head facing East (round 1 only) and then make another Head facing West. Starting at Round 2 connect the two pieces and work throughout, doubling the pattern for Body, for a continuous egg-shape.
Enjoy!
