Easy Chunky Cotton Bag
I have designed this easy crochet bag with basic crochet stitches using US terminology of chains, single crochet, half double crochets and double crochet stitches so it is not complicated but still has an overall affect of looking fabulous. For UK crocheters there is a stitch conversion for you.
I have used 2 strands of different colour yarn crocheted together as one strand to achieve this affect. It not only makes for a chunky finish, it gives the bag sturdiness and durability. It will also give you endless colour combinations to play around with. The 2 examples I have made here are a blue and cream and a natural and cream combination.
Believe it or not, this bag should only take about an hour to complete from start to finish. You will make this bag again and again.
This pattern is very easy to follow with a concise step by step guide showing large images at each stage. I have designed the bag in two pieces. A front and a back section, which are identical apart from the chains worked at the end of one side which will be used as the foundation for the strap at the end. For this pattern I have used a 10 ply chunky cotton.
MATERIALS
CROCHET HOOK: METRIC: Size 6.5mm, USA: 10.5/K, UK: Size 3
I used 1 ball of each colour of 100% cotton 200 gram 12 ply yarn to complete this bag crocheting the 2 yarn strands together at the same time. As a guide I would suggest if you were using 50g balls of yarn you will need 3-4 balls of each colour yarn. Any yarn that is a chunky 10-12 ply approximately in cotton or cotton/acrylic would be suited to this project.
Darning needle to sew in ends.
