Pattern Overview

I used Brown Sheep Company yarn, a product that is grown, sheared, spun and dyed in America. Use two strands together to make a warm and soft hat. The instructions given will make a close fitting woman’s hat. To make a larger hat, increase the number of rows at the crown (instructions given), or a size larger needle.

This pattern is made in two parts. The first part is a headband with button hole loop. Make sure this part fits your head before going on to the back of the hat. In the second half you will pick up stitches from the top of the headband and continue down the back.

The headband and back are made of simple ribbing; knit one, purl one, etc. with a border of 2 garter stitches. The headband starts with a few ribs and increases every few rows. The method of increase is to knit and purl into the same stitch twice. The increase is a little different on the right side and wrong side. This allows the increase to the look the same when viewed from the right side.
