A great first lace knitting project – the lace pattern is not too challenging and the project is quick to knit up.

The cowl is knit flat and then seamed together. It has a repeated lace pattern separated with ribbing and the edges are wavy.

The gauge is not so important as the cowl is not fitted, but to get the same size as in the pattern, one repeat of the lace pattern (17 stitches by 10 rows) measures approximately 9cm x 4cm unblocked. The finished blocked item measures 28cm high and has a circumference of 63cm.

You can use any DK weight yarn - but I recommend using a yarn that can be blocked to show off the lace pattern (so avoid 100% acrylic). The pattern uses around 75g of yarn so if you have a less than full ball to use up this is ideal - and easy to make it taller or shorter by adding or subtracting pattern repeats.

Pattern is available in English and German.
