If you would like to try an easy lace pattern that looks lovely with any variegated yarn you might like this--it looks great and has only 3 pattern rows that repeat. I used 4 skeins of Noro Silk Garden for my scarf but you can use any yarn you have in an aran weight or lighter with the suggested needle size for the yarn--keep in mind that your scarf size will vary with yarn/needle used.
