I recently saw a cowl with an 8 row Staghorn pattern - it was drop dead gorgeous, but I couldn’t quite get my brain wrapped around it. So off to the internet to do some research. I subsequently came up with a 6 row staghorn on a simplified background and was quite pleased with the results - so I wrote it up and even put the cable section in bold face to make it even easier for someone who has never tried cables before. I used a #10 needle so that it would be easier for me to see the construction and cable process, but my friend Lindsay says that the cables will have more “pop” if you use a #9 needle. Now that I am comfortable with the pattern I plan to try that. If you are not comfortable with a provisional cast on and 3 needles bind off, then by all means, you may do a traditional cast on and seam the piece, or, you may leave it open and finish it with buttons. Also, if you have never done a provisional cast on, I recommend using the backwards loop or crochet chain cast on, as these are easier to remove than more twisted cast on, say the knit on method.

Have fun - send me some photos.
