Edgar Allan Poe was an 1800’s American short-story writer, poet, critic, and editor who is famous for his cultivation of mystery and the macabre. I was introduced to his various works back in grade school & have always had a fascination ever since then. Therefore I thought designing a blanket featuring elements of his works would be a great way to honor his legacy, especially during the Spooky Season!

This Edgar Allan Poe blanket uses the overlay mosaic crochet method to create a lush, soft blanket with rich details, perfect for snuggling under with a book during those crisp fall evenings or to give as a gift to an avid Poe fan. The blanket features various elements from Poe’s stories, including Hop-Frog, the Gold Bug, the Tell Tale Heart, The Raven, The Pit & the Pendulum, along with a skull just for good measure!

This design can be done in multi-colors like the sample blanket shows but also would work well with just 2 colors, like the mockup image.

My sample blanket measures 54” x 64” & I used approximately 1600 yards of medium #4 weight yarn of my background color Buff) & 1500 of the main design colors (all others combined) with a 5mm hook, but of course you can do a larger or smaller version with different yarn weight & hook sizes.

This pattern includes full written row instructions plus detailed explanations & links to helpful videos that show the general methods used. There are also fully marked charts - one for the 2-color version and one for the multi-color version, along with download links to 16 page printable charts.

Pattern is written in US terms.
