A rectangular stole knit in wedges of three colors using simple short rows. The middle is worked first and then the two borders are knit in the round.

Gauge is not critical but will affect yardage required and finished size.

A note about gauge in garter stitch - garter gauge is difficult to measure because it is so very stretchy. This makes it difficult to get accurate yardage numbers. I’ve tried to give good estimates with a reasonable bit of padding.

Skills required:
• Long-tail cast-on
• Short rows (directions included - this is a good first short-row project since you don’t need to pick up the wraps)
• Increasing
• Picking up stitches

Yardage details:
• For body - approximately 370 yards of color 1 (light grey in sample) and 340 yards of colors 2 and 3.
• For border - approximately 70 yards for inner border and 265 yards for outer border.
Total by color:
• Color 1 (light grey in sample) - 370
• Color 2 (dark grey in sample) - 605
• Color 3 (red in sample) - 410

If you’re trying to use some of those single skeins in your stash, the outer border can be done in a 4th color.

Note: Due to the large number of edging patterns in the database, you may need to include my name to get this pattern to come up when using it in your projects or magic linking!
