The Edinburgh Lanes Shawl is an ode to the sense of romance and discovery that I always feel when I pay a visit to this grand and gorgeous city.

It is an asymmetrical triangle shawl, with alternating sections of cosy garter stitch and a simple but effective lace stitch pattern. A gentle, wandering fade, stripes, and texture bring to mind the many secret alleyways and shifting views of Edinburgh. This is a relaxing and rewarding knit designed to show off three skeins of lovely yarn.

Edinburgh is an enchanted city, in more ways than one. Hundreds of years of history, literature, art, and architecture have laid down layers of beauty and meaning until every corner seems to hint at some mystery or hold some new discovery.

Any walk through Edinburgh can be an adventure: there’s a delightful chaos to the steep staircases and winding curves of its streets. But most interesting of all are the medieval lanes, which crisscross the Old Town.

You might find yourself strolling down a secluded walkway and then suddenly step out into a beautiful, unexpected little garden, or stumble across an elegant Georgian courtyard.

Cobblestones, quaint little shops, and hidden doorways are all part of the charm. It feels as if you’re very close to the past, while knowing that you might find anything around the next corner.

Edinburgh Lanes was originally launched at Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2019 in collaboration with A Yarn Story and Magpie Fibers.
