Edisto Beach is a favorite place of mine. My family vacationed there for 12 years, always in the off season when things were extra peaceful and slow. We would bike around the Island and eat in all the local crab shacks. I always enjoyed our hours on the beach and hunting for shells and fossil shark teeth. It seemed only fitting that sharing my favorite memories fit together with a yarn born in South Carolina.
Many of the houses on Edisto stand up off the ground to protect them from the frequent flooding and storm surge. Some on great brick foundations, with swooping arches allowing the water to flow right on through. The colorful palette of near by Charleston has influenced the colors of Edisto. Soft and sun faded tropical colors dot the facades against the sandy landscape. The Plantation shutters cover the windows with their strong ridges and add security from the ocean winds. Even though they are practical, they are stylish and graceful. Everything seems special on Edisto Island. Even the trees are dressed up. Live Oaks drip with Spanish Moss and the Palmetto Frons dance across the sky.

As you work the sections of the Edisto wrap, perhaps you will be transported through the stitches. The garter stitch ridges mimic the shutters, the gathered berry stitch rows reminiscent of the tiny beach shells and the Shell Wave Lace may remind you of the architectural arches.
