This is the seventh installment in my series of patterns using the half double crochet in the very back loop, which is my favorite stitch! The star stitch is also used, which can take a bit of getting used to if you’ve never worked with it before. I’ve done my best to provide written star stitch instructions on the following slides, and there are many great YouTube videos showing this stitch if you’d like extra guidance.

I’m naming this after my cat Edna, who is the sweetest, sassiest little old lady ever. She’s been with me for a decade and has been my companion through all sorts of major life events and challenges. Naming a pattern after her just feels right!

Construction Notes:

The Edna Baby Blanket is a made-to-measure pattern. It is worked in rows, followed by an optional border worked all the way around with the right-side facing.

What You’ll Need:

As mentioned, this pattern is made-to-measure. Prior to completing a border, the short edge of the blanket will be the length of your starting chain, minus four chains. Keep this in mind when you select the width for your starting chian.

Depending on the size you’d like your blanket to be, your yarn needs will of course vary. This pattern can be worked up in any yarn weight you’d like!

For the example shown in this pattern, I used two skeins of Lion Brand’s Baby Soft yarn in colorway Circus Print, with two strands held together. Two skeins was plenty for me to complete a total of 19 pattern repeats and the border with a starting chain of 55.
