Egghead Beanie
An egghhead is a person who is highly academic or studious; an intellectual. Sometimes I like to take things too literally and when I heard the term “egghead”, I just couldn’t resist. Be an Egghead. Like me.
This pattern is for advanced beginners with experience in colorwork.
Notes
- The pattern uses US terminology/abbreviations.
- You will need to know how to color change and carry yarn.
- When carrying colors, do not pull the carried yarn at full tight tension or else the hat will not have any stretch.
- I am lefty- keep that in mind when looking at the photos.
- It does not need to have a neat or clean look on the inside of the hat.
- This pattern utilizes surface slip stitches.
- Gauge is very important- everyone may have different tension so please gauge swatch before starting to check for correct hook size.
Size
Fits most
Teen-adult size hat measured 8.5” long by 9.5” wide at the widest point. To adjust sizing, stitch count will not change. Instead, a different hook size will be used. Hook sizing is as follows for the body of the hat:
Child 6-10 (head circumference of 16”-20.5”)- Size I or 5.5mm
Ages 11 and up (head circumference of 20.5”-22”)- Size J or 6.0mm
Large adult (head circumference of 23”-24”)- Size K or 6.5mm
Hook size for hat brim is 1 size smaller than the hook used for the hat body. For example, if you use size 6.0mm for the body, use a 5.0mm for the hat brim.
These hook sizes are based on tension. If you need to adjust hook size to help with the fit, feel free!
