Eggsquisite Easter Bunny MKAL 2021
Knitting is not a pastime! It’s a way of life. It eases my soul, it’s music to my senses…..and when I need it most, it’s a light in the dark.
A stray puppy adopted me 13 years ago. She made friends with me, following me in the park, when I was walking, after coming home from hospital, after my heart attack in 2009. She gave me more love & company in 2010, when due to low immunity, I got Chikungunya. She stayed outside, in my yard during the day, and at night she walked the streets with the colony guards. After her accident, when a speeding car hit her in 2011, I looked after her at home, took her daily to the vet for bandage changes, 4 injections & glucose drip, etc., cos all 4 legs, her left hip, & her head, were hurt, & she became a family member. Fat like a Labrador, with a black shiny coat. But her heart was that of a stray. She stubbornly refused to stay in at night. And I let her be a free spirit. Even in 1 degree centigrade weather in winter, she preferred the outdoors, but loved her cushion & blanket in the day, at home. She daily came in by scratching the back door, around 5 am. & left around 9 pm.
On the 27th of Feb., 2021, I whistled for her, but no Wiggie came. CCTV footage when checked & saved, showed that on 25th she’d spent the entire night in front of my front gate, guarding my house. (No wonder she used to sleep the entire day.) She only moved that night, when she ran away from a man, my next door neighbour, who had rented an apartment in Oct 2020, who was trying to catch her. On 26th around 9.21pm, CCTV footage shows the same evil dog stealer was successful. With the help of an accomplice who fooled her, feeding her, when he made her unconscious. The man shifted out from his rented premises on Mar 1st. The police are doing nothing. Man has been caught & left by the police, after he obviously denied everything. Police said to me: “It’s just a dog. We are busy with rape cases & murder cases in the city.” Well, Wiggie wasn’t “just a dog.” She was my darling Baby Wiggie. My grandson called her Naani’s Wiggie (with so much love when he said those 2 words). I have kept stray cats, & dogs. Now never again. They take a huge chunk of your heart when they go.
This pattern is for you. In memory of my Wiggie.
