Eik is a purse that is worked from the bottom up in a slipped stitch pattern. It is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together and can either be made solid or in a 2-coloured pattern. To start, the bag is worked back and forth to make the bottom part, then it is worked in the round to create the sides. Four marked stitches distinguish between the front, back, and side panels of the bag. From the side panels, each half of the strap is worked seamlessly and finally assembled by binding off with 3 needles.

GAUGE
22 stitches in slipped stitch pattern = 10 cm / 4”.
Make a swatch before starting to make sure you have the correct gauge. Deviations will lead to incorrect measurements of the bag and therefore not the size you expect.

RECOMMENDED NEEDLE SIZE
Circular needles 5 mm / US 8 (80 cm / 32”)
Note: The purse is best suited to be worked using the Magic Loop technique. Alternatively, you can use 3 circular needles that are at least 60 cm / 24” long. You distribute the stitches onto 2 of the needles and knit with the 3rd.

MEASUREMENTS
Width 25 cm / 9.8”, height 13 cm / 5.1”, depth 10 cm / 4”.
Length of strap: 86 cm / 34”.

YARN REQUIREMENTS
Rauma Garn, Finull (100% wool, 175 m / 191 yds and 50 g per skein). The purse is worked in 2 strands held together. Yarn requirements below refer to total yarn consumption.

TECHNIQUES
• Slipped stitch pattern as explained in the pattern.
• Picking up stitches.
• Central double decrease: Slip 2
stitches together knitwise (as if to knit 2 together), knit 1, pass both slipped stitches simultaneously over the knit stitch.
• Yarn over: Wrap the yarn around the right needle so that it goes from the front to the back.
• Binding off: Work 2 stitches. Pass the 1st stitch over the 2nd. Work 1 stitch and pass the previous stitch over it. Repeat from * to * until there is 1 stitch left on the needle.
• 3 needle bind off: Hold your work on 2 needles with the right sides of the work facing each other. Use a 3rd needle to knit 1 stitch from each needle together. Repeat with the next stitch on each needle. Slip the 1st stitch on the right needle over the 2nd. Repeat until all stitches on the left needles are worked and you have 1 stitch remaining on the right needle. Break the yarn and pull it through by pulling the last stitch.
