Eilidh's Gift
If you like texture, then this project is for you. Individual motifs of octagons, squares and triangles are made up and sewn together, then finished with a border. This pattern was originally designed to be a pram-sized blanket, but could be enlarged to any size you want - however, because it is highly textured, it uses a lot of yarn!
I’d recommend a cotton or cotton blend yarn to get the stitch definition that enhances textured fabric. I used one main colour for the large octagons with pops of 6 contrast colours for the smaller motifs: 7 colours in total (12 balls of main colour and one each of the contrast colours).
The size of the octagon motif, when using the suggested yarn and hook, is 16cm/6.25” from flat side to flat side.
Included in the pattern is a squared-off octagon, so if you prefer, you can just make the square motifs for easier joining. The squared-off motifs measure about 20cm/8” across.
I’d recommend this pattern for intermediate crocheters, because of the use of front and back post stitches, clusters, half treble/triple stitch and treble/triple stitch, along with the more common stitches.
