Elegant & Easy Fleece Stuffed Mittens
The technique used to make this extremely warm mitten, believed to have originated in the Labrador region of Canada, was first described by Robin Hansen in ‘Fox & Geese & Fences’. Here we have taken our own ‘Elegant and Easy’ mitten pattern and adapted it to accommodate the bulk of the fleece, using a similar but different technique.
SKILLS USED: Basics, knitting in the round, simple shaping, knitting with fleece, simple chart reading.
SIZES: Child small 4-6 years, (Child large or adult small / adult medium / adult large).
FINISHED CIRCUMFERENCE: 7” ( 8” / 9” / 10”)
MATERIALS NEEDED: approximately 110 (160 / 210 / 220) yards worsted weight wool yarn, 2 oz of 100 % medium staple length wool roving, pencil roving, or combed fleece, US#4 (3.5 mm) and US #5 (3.75 mm) double pointed needles or size to obtain the correct gauge, a small stitch holder, 2 markers, darning needle.
