Use any yarn weight, no need to match gauge, choose your own yarn and the stitches calculator will do all the counting~~
a made to measure pattern crochet pattern that is specially customizable to your own body measurement.
Say hello to Elena, a classy top-down cardigan that is worked in yoke! which means no sewing and less end tails to weave (perfect option for those who hate sewing like me hehe).
For those who has been following me for a while, you will notice that I am obsessed with recreating classy tweed jacket through crochet hehehe
This year, I am back with another classy roound neck cardigan which can also be made into tweed-jacket-look-a-like!
In contrary to my previous two cardigan design, elena doesn’t involve colorwork, you can easily make your elena with one classic solid color (some of my testers did this),
so what are you waiting for, it is a sign for you to start your fall (or winter) cardigan early with elena cardigan pattern!

About this pattern:
• Pattern is written in English with standard US terms.
• As I am a right-handed, this pattern is written with right-handed crocheters in mind, left-handed crocheters should crochet in different direction.
• This pattern is suitable for advanced beginner crocheters, although it has minimal shaping and made up from basic stitches but making a crochet cardigan will take a longer time
• This crochet pattern works in rows for the body part and work in rounds for the sleeves.
About this cardigan:
• I used top - bottom construction method for this cardigan, which means the cardigan length and the sleeve length will be easily adjustable.
• This cardigan will have regular fit around the bust
• There will be two type of sleeve for this cardigan: straight and cuffed
• There will be two type of edging for this cardigan:
Thin edging – without button, will resemble a jacket.
Thick edging – works best with buttons.
p.s: I know some might say that my written pattern looks so intimidating because of the oh so many pages
and the supplementary excel spreadsheet. But don’t worry, this long pdf file means there are tons of
step by step picture and diagrams to help you get through it.
++ with the excel spreadsheet, you won’t need to do math, the excel will do it for you
(because I know, I am not the only one who hate math, and I am not the only one who are just too lazy to match gauge).
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A DIGITAL
CROCHET PATTERN AND TUTORIAL ONLY,
NOT A FINISHED ITEM / PRODUCT.
There will be NO physical item, product, material or tools to be send.
All the pattern and instruction is written in English, using standard US terms.
Materials & tools needed:
• #1 Fingering weight yarn / #2 Sport weight yarn / #3 DK weight yarn / #4 Aran weight yarn
• Respective crochet hook for any weight yarn that you choose and one size larger hook (one size larger means 3.00 mm and 3.50 mm, 4.00mm and 4.50 mm, etc).
• Scissors
• Stitch markers
• Measuring tape / ruler
• Buttons, recommend you to choose buttons with 2-3cm diameter (it will depends on the type of edging you choose, please refer to the “About this cardigan” part)
Yarn usage based on my measurement (bust 81 cm, waist 69 cm)
- Cardigan height 35 cm, short sleeve crop length, I used approximately 160g of #1 fingering weight pure acrylic yarn, used 3.00mm hook
- Cardigan height 35 cm, long sleeve crop length, I used approximately 285g of #1 fingering weight pure acrylic yarn, used 3.00mm hook
- Cardigan height 35 cm, short sleeve crop length, I used approximately 140g (±420m) of #3 DK weight pure acrylic yarn, used 4.00mm hook Note: if you used 100% pure cotton yarn, you have to double the weight as it is heavier than cotton and acrylic blend. (How much yarn you required is highly depends on the yarn weight, yarn type, crochet hook size, your tension, bust size, I put the detailed info on how much yarn does each testers used in the lookbook)
Yarn recommendation:
- Pure cotton yarn is not recommended as it will be heavy
- Heavier weight yarn will create larger grid, boxier and more constructed piece.
- Lighter weight yarn will create smaller grid and the drape will be flowy.
Crochet hook reference (hook size that I used for my elena, my tension is on the loose side):
- #3 DK weight pure acrylic yarn: 4.50 mm for FC, 4.00 mm for everything else
- #1 fingering weight pure acrylic yarn: 3.50 mm for FC, 3.00 mm for everything else
