Elephant Afghan & Baby Cocoon, #220

Charming elephants dance across these delightful designs, made for all ages. They’re crocheted using my signature sc in back lp and dc in front lp of st 2 rows below…similar in technique to the classic Navajo and Trail of Tears afghans. You alternate row colors so you are only working with one color at a time. Clever placement of the dropped dc stitch forms the design. It’s similar to Mosaic Knitting, but done in MOSAIC CROCHET! Written instructions plus optional graphs are given for baby and child-size afghans plus a baby cocoon made from baby, sport or DK yarn, and an adult size afghan made using worsted weight yarn. Adult Afghan (approx. 49 3/4” x 62 1/2”)
Materials: Size G crochet hook or size needed for gauge of 4 sc and 4 sc rows = 1”; worsted weight yarn—53 oz. (2757 yds.) marled (or heather) gray, 8 oz. (450 yds.) red, 21 oz. (1100 yds.) blue, 2 oz. (100 yds.) white.

Child-Size Afghan (approx. 44 1/4” x 55 1/2”)
Materials: Size F crochet hook or size needed for gauge of 9 sc and 9 sc rows = 2”; baby/sport/DK weight yarn—23 oz. (2185 yds.) marled (or heather) gray, 4.75 oz. (450 yds.) red, 10.5 oz. (997 yds.) blue, 2 oz. (190 yds.) white.

Baby Afghan (approx. 39 3/4” x 50”)
Materials: Size E crochet hook or size needed for gauge of 5 sc and 5 sc rows = 1”; baby/sport/DK weight yarn—20 oz. (1894 yds.) marled (or heather) gray, 4 oz. (380 yds.) red, 9 oz. (855 yds.) blue, 1.5 oz. (145 yds.) white.

Cocoon
Materials: Size E crochet hook or size needed for gauge; baby weight yarn—3.5 oz. (332 yds.) marled (or heather) gray, 1.5 oz. (138 yds.) red, 1 oz. (92 yds.) medium blue.
Gauge: 5 sts and 5 sc rnds = 1”;
2 dc rnds = 1”
Size: Approximately 18” x 19”; fits newborn to 3 months.
