Elizabeta was inspired by the 1992 movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula. She was the wife of Vlad who was tricked into believing that he was killed in battle, which lead to her to take her own life. After learning of her heath, Vlad was told that she would burn in hell for taking her life. Enraged, Vlad rejected the church and became Dracula, taking his revenge on helpless victims. She is the least discussed and (in my opinion) the most important of Dracula’s brides, for there would never have been a Dracula if not for her.

The knee-high features a dainty lace pattern throughout, and a crown on the back of the calf to symbolize her royal status as the original bride of the ruler of Transylva. The reverse stockinette from the calf continues down to the heel, through the sole of the foot, and finishes on the toe. It is worked from the top down, and is written for the two circular method of sock knitting, but can be easily adjusted to DPN or magic loop. Negative ease is used through the leg to help keep the sock in place, although you may also hold a strand of elastic thread together with the yarn when working the cuff.

This pattern requires familiarity with sock knitting, charts, and lace. You will also need:

• darning needle
• cable needle
• elastic thread (optional)
