This shawl wraps around you like a big, comforting hug. Elizabeth Salford is an adaptable pattern and can be knit in many different weights of yarn. Knitted in fingering weight wool, Elizabeth is excellent for the cool early days of Spring. A heavier DK weight version is cosy and just the thing for windy Autumn weather.

The pattern for Elizabeth includes sizing and charts for a spring shawl in fingering weight yarn and an autumn shawl in DK weight yarn. Guidance is given on extending the lace and the wings to suit different yarn weights or to make a larger shawl

Knitted top down, a triangular panel of lace is framed by stocking stitch wings and the deep curve of the bottom edge is finished with an i-cord bind off. You can tuck this shawl up around your neck and shoulders and still show off the textured lace on the back.

The lace pattern is worked on both sides. An unusual increase formula is used to create the long wings of the shawl.

This pattern is charted and has full written instructions. The lace stitches include standard decreases, yarnovers, knit three together and a cluster stitch that is fully described in the pattern.

This shawl is named for Elizabeth Salford, Duchess of Rayne - from the Georgette Heyer novel Sylvester. And in memory of my Auntie Liz, who was also a comforting person.
