Ellen's Stockings
Summary Top-down, five double-pointed needles, lace.
Chart Included Cuff and leg/instep patterns.
From Nancy Bush's Pattern Introduction Ellen…has welcomed me warmly to her museum and also to her home, sharing her knowldege of Estonian textiles and making the entire collection of knitting available to me. Ellen's love for her heritage is inspiring and infectious. I named these stockings for Ellen because she enjoys style and fashion, and is so elegant in a very quiet way.
These stockings are somewhat modern and about as dressy as handknit stockings can be. They begin with a double-start cast-on and become a mix of lace stitches and openwork ribbing. The lace runs down the leg and foot, while the ribbing ends part way down the leg. The toe ends in a spiral shape.
