Elliot is knit in the round from the bottom up. The arms are knit first and then set aside to be attached later. Next, each leg is knit and then joined together to work the body. The arms are then joined before knitting the shoulders, neck, and head. Stitches for the muzzle are provisionally worked with waste yarn which is later removed. The live stitches are then picked up and worked in the round to form the muzzle. The ears, horns, and tail are knit separately and sewn on. The sample jackalope has embroidered eyes, but tips for using safety eyes are included.

Materials:

Yarn
For Elliot - Polypay Worsted from Flying Goat Farm, worsted weight, 200 yds/183 m. Elliot used about 60 yds/64 m in Gingersnap.

For Elliot’s horns - 1 yd/1 m white fingering weight yarn.

For Elliot’s scarf - Corriedale Sock Mini Skein from Flying Goat Farm, fingering weight, 100 yds/91 m. Elliot’s scarf used about
40 yds/37 m.

Needles
For Elliot - US size 3 (3.25 mm) double pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge below. You’ll need two sets - one for knitting and one for holding stitches.

For Elliot’s scarf - US size 5 (3.75 mm) 24” circular or straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge below.

For Elliot’s horns - US size 2 (2.75 mm) double pointed needles.

Jackalope Gauge - 7 sts by 9 rows over 1”/2.5 cm lightly stuffed.

Scarf Gauge - 7 sts by 10 rows over 1”/2.5 cm lightly blocked.

Finished size - 7.25”/18.5 cm tall.

Miscellaneous - darning needle for weaving in ends; about
1/2 oz/14 g of wool stuffing (or stuffing of your choice); one 6”/15 cm scrap of yarn to hold stitches for the muzzle, scrap of black fingering weight yarn or embroidery floss for eyes and nose.
