Elmers Hat is a lovely snuggly hat, with an easy colorwork pattern using 4 colours. This hat can be knitted for Newborn size right up to a Large Adult size. It is worked in the round, and is a 4 stitch repeat around the hat. The pattern is both charted and written, so you can work in your most desired way. Choose a colour palette that works well together, or contrast colours for a colour pop! This hat is designed as a fun way to introduce basic colour work. This hat is designed to be paired with Elmers Cowl.

Recommended Yarn: DK / 8ply weight: 100% Merino. 4 colours, 3 solids and one feature yarn either speckled or variegated. Colour 1 is for the Rib, Colours 2, 3, and 4 are for the pattern.

This pattern can be made with 3 colours if you choose, by replacing colour 4 with colour 1, the brim colour.

Gauge: 22 stitches x 26 rows = 10cm /4” in colorwork pattern using Larger needles.

You will need approximately 100g of DK Merino yarn for large sizes. A maximum of 25g per colour. Approximately 57m / 62y of each colour. You will use less for smaller sizes. Meterage is approximate depending on weight and yarn type. If you choose to use the 3 colour option you will need to allow for extra yarn in the brim colour.

Sizes: 5cm (2”) negative ease (standard hat ease).
Newborn: Actual head circumference 41.5cm (16.3”) / hat circumference 36.5cm (14.5”)
Infant: Actual head circumference 45cm (17.7”) / hat circumference 40cm (15.7”)

Recommended Needles: (adjust needles to meet gauge)
3.5mm (US4) for Rib and 4mm (US6) circular needles for knitting in the round, on a small 20cm cable (8” long)
