The Elsa mittens feature a simple but beautiful check pattern. Thanks to a great fit, these are the perfect winter mittens – and when it gets really, really cold, wear two pairs!
SIZES
1 (2, 3)
To fit a hand circumference of approx. 7 (8, 8.5)“ / 18 (20, 22) cm.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Length from Cuff to Tip: 11 (11.5, 12)“ / 28 (29, 30) cm.
Hand Circumference: 7 (8, 8.5)“ / 18 (20, 22) cm.
Thumb Length: 3 (3, 3)“ / 7 (7.5, 8) cm.
MATERIALS
Yarn: 2 skeins of Peer Gynt by Sandnes Garn (100% Norwegian wool, 100 yds / 91 m – 50 g), colourways 2122 Månestein (light yellow) and 3553 Stövet Plommerosa (pink).
Note! The largest size uses two full skeins of Peer Gynt. If you want to be extra sure that you don’t run out of yarn or want to make the cuff a bit longer, buy a third skein.If you decide to use another yarn, you will need approx. 170 (184, 199) yds / 155 (168, 182) m of DK-weight yarn.
Needles: US 4 / 3.5 mm DPNs (set of 5). Note! The pattern is written for DPNs. You can also use circular needles but note that you need to take this into account when following the pattern.
Notions: A piece of waste yarn in a different colour.
GAUGE
22 sts x 40 rnds to 4” / 10 cm in Check Pattern, after blocking.
CONSTRUCTION
These mittens are worked seamlessly in the round, beginning with the cuff. The cuff is in 2 x 2 Ribbing while the hand section features an all-over check pattern. The thumb opening is marked with waste yarn from which the stitches are picked up and knitted later.
