A provisional cast on is used and the knitting begins from the top down, knitting the stocking first. When the stocking is complete, carefully remove the waste yarn a stitch at a time as you put the live stitches back on your needles to knit the leaves that adorn the cuff. Using only approximately 30 yards for main color and 15 yards for contrast color, you can easily knit these with leftover sock yarn, or knit many of these and make a garland.
