Named for E.B. White, author of Elements of Style, this cowl is much like his writings – simple and elegant in style, with a sophisticated construction not immediately apparent.

Using Cat Bordhi’s Mobius Cast On allows beginning from the center and working out to top and bottom edges. This unique cast on method allows for perfectly matched edges and a quick knit project. This cast on can look intimidating but is actually quite simple to do. Links to tutorial videos for both cast on and bind off are included.

This Cowl uses a minimum of approximately 225 yards of DK-weight yarn (amount will increase if a longer or wider cowl is desired). The sample is knit in a wool/silk/mohair blend, but most moderately drapey fibers will be acceptable. It will be best to avoid fibers with no “memory” unless they are part of a blend, otherwise the cowl may lose its shape during wear. Very fuzzy yarns will work but may reduce the visibility of the stitch texture.

My thanks to Ravelry members jedigirl and drakb for their help in testing this pattern and to firemaplegirl for tech editing my designs.
