Ember Days are 12 days in the year, four sets of three, set aside for prayer, fasting and giving to the needy. Ember, in this case, comes from the word simply meaning time or season (a corruption of the words Quatuor Tempora for four times). So, these are seasonal days of prayer. This shawlette is a simple triangle that is perfect for contemplation, with the easiest short rows you can imagine to shape the fluttering edge, giving a little hint to heads of grain and wildflowers in the eyelets. Using only one skein of fingering weight yarn, this is a quick knit that would make an excellent gift.
