This is a really quick and fun knit, you will only be using 2 colours of yarn in any given round, but it gives a very bright and colourful effect! You should be familiar with stranded colour work for this pattern.

NOTE for GAUGE & NEEDLE SIZE & Yardage:
(remember to block your gauge swatch and then measure for gauge to ensure you end up with the right hat size) Each size has a minimum negative ease of 2” but as long as you leave your floats loose the hat will be stretchy. *Use whatever size needles necessary to obtain the correct gauge.*

Baby (12-18 months) size = 16”, to fit head size 17-18”
Gauge: 6 stitches = 1”, 6 rounds = 1” (Using 3.25mm 16” circular needles & dpn in stranded colourwork, or whichever size to obtain the correct gauge); you will also need one size smaller needles for ribbing, 3mm 16” circular needles

Toddler (12 month – 3 years) = 17”, to fit head size 18-19”
Gauge: 5.5 stitches = 1”, 5.5 rounds = 1” (Using 3.5mm 16” circular needles & dpn needles in stranded colourwork, or whichever size to obtain the correct gauge) ; you will also need one size smaller needles for ribbing, 3.25mm 16” circular needles

Child (3-10 years) size = 18”, to fit head size 19-20.5”
Gauge: 5.25 stitches = 1”, 5 rounds = 1” (Using 3.75mm 16” circular needles & dpn needles in stranded colourwork, or whichever size to obtain the correct gauge) ; you will also need one size smaller needles for ribbing, 3.5mm 16” circular needles

Preteen/Teen/Small adult size = 19.5”, to fit head size 20-22”
Gauge: 5 stitches = 1”, 4.5 rounds = 1” (Using 4mm 16” circular needles & dpn needles in stranded colourwork, or whichever size to obtain the correct gauge) ; you will also need one size smaller needles for ribbing, 3.5mm 16” circular needles

YARDAGE:
You will need 4 colours of yarn, 2 darker (main colours) and 2 lighter (contrast colours) of WORSTED WEIGHT (I found Cascade 220 Superwash worked really well for this)

• Purple –less than ¼ of a 100g skein or less than 55 yards (main colour 2)
• Yellow –less than ¼ of a 100g skein or less than 55 yards (contrast colour 1)
• Orange –less than 1/8 of a 100g skein or less than 27 yards (contrast colour 2)
